If You Give The Boy a Water Balloon

He'll want you to throw it at him.
And if you have an arm like mine,
you'll miss and it'll pop on the grass.

He'll be sad and you'll promise to soak him with water on Saturday morning.
Saturday morning will come, but you won't want to put clothes on to go in the front yard.
You'll send The Teenager in the front yard with The Boy
and instruct her to soak him with the water hose at 9:30.
You'll take The Boy to Target later that day and come accross more waterballoons.
You'll make more empty promises to have a water fight with him later that day.
It's Saturday, so you'll have to take him to a birthday party and by the time you get home,
you'll be too tired.
He'll talk you into calling his Auntie to tell her a story about a "special girl" he saw at Target
and explain to his Auntie that she needs to go to Target to teach her sign language.
Amidst the conversation, he'll invite her over for a Water Fight Party.
He'll then invite one cousin,
then another,
then his uncle,
he'll invite his grandma.
He'll set up a time for the party- After lunch he'll tell them.

They'll all ask him what his mommy is making for lunch.
After lunch, you'll try to explain!
Sunday morning, you'll buy MORE water balloons.
You'll text more cousins to let them know of the impending party.
You'll go from store to store to find a Slip N Slide at the end of August.
You'll have to talk your hubby out of buying the Giant Kingpin chair at Big 5.
Yes, you know it's cool, but it's $100 you exclaim!

One balloon
turns into buckets of balloons
Buckets of balloons turn into sleds full of balloons
AND water guns for all
Balloons and water guns
turn into slip n sliding on a hot August Summer day.

Freinds and neighbors join in on the fun.
Food is grilled and eaten because you know-
you simply can't have a party without food
Cousins get wet and messy,
they chill out and dry on a "Magic Carpet"
One balloon will turn into a lifetime of memories.

Reflections...December

With Birthdays, Christmas, New Year’s, and every other reason my family could find to throw a party- I need to make sure I get this December to Remember in the memory books…
aka…my bloggity blog!

So here we go…
Weekend #1
The weekend after Thanksgiving was our first December party.
We were celebrating my lil’ ster’s b-day with a 1920’s Murder Mystery.
It was absolutely magical to see the way everyone transformed into their character from the moment they walked into the door.
The women were dressed in a beautiful assortment of dresses and fur coats with matching hairstyles and gorgeous pearls.
The men wore 3 piece suits, overcoats, and top hats.
Everyone looked marvelous and I longed for days of beautiful people again!

We drank like it was days of prohibition, 5 people were murdered, and there was plenty of extortion going on but it was all in the name of FUN!

Weekend #2
My mom’s annual Christmas party.
It’s a fun holiday party filled with family, friends, and co-workers.
Oh yeah, and lots and lots of food (and maybe some booze)
This year Mom’s BFF (from Jr. High or maybesooner) showed up with her family.
We used to hang out with their family at least every couple of weeks but as we got older and each family moved, it’s been at least 16 years since I’ve seen them last. We had a blast catching up, dancing, eating, and drinking!

We were even graced with the presence of all of the Dollette's, when they're there, it's a party!

Weekend #3
The big Sweet 16 was upon us.
Teen 1 was officially 16 and I turned 31 the same day.
I decided to forego any celebration for myself since Teen 1 gave up a party last year in honor of my 30th.
We had a bonfire for my girl and all of her friends.
They had fun hanging out, making smores, and giggling as girls do!
She was super sweet and surprised me by having the whole party sing Happy Birthday to me instead of her when it was cake time. Very cute, thanks!
The next day we celebrated my Dad’s birthday as well.
He went to see The Grinch show in Hollywood and loved it!
I don’t think he has any pictures with the pan-handling characters though!

Weekend #4

Christmas Eve- My Dad’s famous Christmas Eve chili was shared by all.
We also did our 2nd annual ugly ornament exchange.
I can’t wait to see what everyone’s trees will look like in a few years. It’s funny to see the reaction of the cashier as you purchase these ornaments with a straight face!
The cashier this year asked me if the ornament was made out of the stuff they use to clean toilet bowls with!
Christmas Day – Santa came and dropped off what the kids had been hoping for all year.
They were overjoyed and we always have so much fun watching them.
Then off to my Mom’s house for our white elephant gift exchange with the array of wacky gifts that make their way back, champagne tasting, tip cup, dance party, and King’s cup all before 7pm. It was a doozy that Christmas day!

Weekend #5
New Year’s Eve- This year we did a Celebrities in Times Square Ball Drop! Complete with red carpet, papparazzi, and the celebrities of course.
Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Kat Von D, Beyonce, Jackass, Pharrell just to name a few...

What a way to end the year!

In between all of this weekend fun, we also had one Christmas choir show every week for each of the kids, Teen 2 actually had 2 this year. I wish I had pictures, they were all really good!
Except Teen 2 looks like she’s absolutely miserable up on stage…teenagers!!

By Jan 2nd we were all complaining about how full the month was in one breathe, but planning our next adventure in the next!

Can't wait for the next one!

Hey Bird Brain!

Another holiday event...
Another party to plan...
Another reason to make your family members do ridiculous things!

My awesomely creative sister crowned us all with a halo of drumsticks this Thanksgiving
Some of us were overjoyed to be crowned...
Some of us pretended not to be wearing the crown hoping that noone would notice...
Some of us spent alot of time curling our hair and were hoping this didn't mess up the do...
Some of us remembered what we looked like in Hawaii and remembered to do the super cheesy smile everytime a camera was in sight...
Some of us were trying out for a vampire part in a film...
and most of us were thankful for the day and all the smiling faces...
(sorry girls, Mama tried to remind you I had a blog and the pictures would be posted!)

What was I thinking?

That’s what I was saying to myself as we ran around picking up things for The Boy’s Skateboard Birthday party.

Give me a theme, and I’m just outta control!
That’s also part of my shopaholic problem.
But I just LOVE to throw a party!

I was getting calls from parents saying, Well my son’s never been on a skateboard, with the sound of concern (maybe for my sanity).
Don’t you worry, I say.

But Friday night, I was sorta freakin’ out wondering if I had just bit off more than we could chew!

My mom bought tons of ice packs just in case! Yikes!!

My original plan was to have ramps and an obstacle course set up by yours truly.
But my clever hubby thought it might be a better idea if we had a real professional do it!

Gosh, he’s so smart sometimes!

This guy had waivers for parents to sign, which relieved hubby of any lawsuit concerns and probably also our landlords who live next door to us and watched it all unfold!!
(Don’t worry the boy is like grandson they’ve longed for so it’s all good!)

We put up road signs and caution tape- Hey we warned them!
Everyone showed up with their bike, skooter, skateboard, and roller skates in tow.
And the craziness, I mean FUN began!!
It was amazing what these little kids could actually do!

The boy was going up ramps and rollin down, I had to walk away a few times!
The Skatedogs were awesome. They had the patience to deal with a bunch of 4-5 year olds without a problem. Most kids that had never been on a board were going up the ramps and learned how to some pretty sweet tricks by the end of the day.

I think the older girls were explaining to the little girls why boys are so silly with their boards,
I mean really roller skating is so much cuter!
The boy even took a break from his tricks to show the kids how to "jerk"
The older kids rode their bikes around.
The dad’s played Frisbee tag (which meant everyone was a target!)

All in all I think everyone had a good time!
The kids were pooped by the time they left.
We didn’t even have to break out one ice pack (for any kids anyway!!)

Of course, I sent them all home with a box full of sugar, glow sticks, and goodies just in case they need to re-charge!

Happy Birthday my boy, you’re 4!
Now go sleep in your own bed!!!

Party Pooper

Talk about a weekend full of partying...and this aint no college party partyin'
this is some serious 4 year old party action going on!!
And really, how much fun would it be to just have 1 party in a weekend
I think 4 parties in one weekend is WAY funner!

This little guy was made for the preteens bday friend!
Ever since I learned about this talent, her friends will not be receiving any other gift...sorry!!
you give my daughter $50, i'm giving your daughter a monster made out of a sock!
It's the thought that counts right?!
(and who the hell gives their kid's friend $50 as a gift??!!,
you're setting the standards way too high! I mean, thanks!)
Next morning we were up early for Santi's bday party
Santi is the boy's BFF!
They've known each other since the boy was 4 months old and now he's 3 1/2 so that's a lifetime
Sandra of course is his "mommy", his first love, the best daycare provider you'll find!
She's loved our boy like he was her own from day one.
The boy stopped going to her last Sept,
but still talks about them everyday as if he still sees them.
He was able to spend the night last week.
He cried 'til he fell asleep when we left...that was over his excitement to see me, I'm sure!
We had to rush him out of that party and on the road to make little cousin Kaeden's party!
No pics because it was one of those organized jumpy places, once I took my shoes off and stuffed all my goods in the little cubicle, I didn't look back (or go back for my camera)
It was a ton of fun and quite surprised Ethan was able to stay awake for the whirlwind of partyin'

As we left that party, I asked the boy if he had fun

Yes, he answered.

I said, I'm pooped son, how bout you?

NO!! (with a look of disgust)

Did you poop your pants mom??!!!

Now just you wait, cause the partying was not over!
Kim was over later THAT night and we were up til midnight
(yes the boy stayed up the whole time)
while Kim made this fab DJ Lance cake - wikee wikee (that's me scratching on the turntables)
and I attempted to roll out Airheads to make monsters
I want you all to try and roll out an Airhead!
It's sort of like licking your cotton candy
then trying to fluff it back up with your fingers
FUN i tell you!
It was all for the love of that little Kaia Papaya
The monster party went off without a hitch and we had a blast!
We had to get a picture of us before we looked tired and sweaty
That's my dad and all his girls
Oh, check out Sammi's iron on, too cute!!
And here's the little monster children coloring monsters. See why we're pooped!

Follow along through the fun and agony as we try to figure out how to raise two completely opposite teenagers- Teen 1, the fiesty yet inquisitive one, Teen 2 quiet but wise-cracking and our ball full of energy known as The Boy. It aint always pretty, but we’ll sure try to make the best of it!
These are the stories of our lives…
