What a surprise…

I picked up The Boy from preschool
and as I’m strapping him into his carseat,
I tell him, Mommy picked you up early today!!!
“Did you bring me a surprise?” he asks.
“Yep!” I reply
“SURPRISE, I picked you up from school!”
“You’re my surprise?”
With a look of disappointment, he continues
“I thought Daddy was gonna pick me up”.

W H A T E V E R!!

Who's Arguing?

It’s funny to watch the way 4 year old brains try to figure out what people are saying.
They translate bigger or unfamiliar words into words that are in the vocabulary.
If you know the The Boy, he questions E V E R Y T H I N G.
To make it even more fun, he’s stubborn so he always believes he’s right.

He would come home from school and tell me the kids at school had “Case of C” for lunch. I thought he was telling me the kids were having quesadillas. So for months, I would grill quesadillas for his lunch. He always seemed a bit confused when I’d wrap them up in foil and put them in his lunch. This week, I finally figured out what he meant.
Case of C = KFC

This kid loves to sing. He will listen to the radio and try to copy what they’re saying. He’ll ask me to sing the songs to him so he can understand and repeat the words.
He loves to teach you how to sing songs too. Whether it’s a song on the radio or one that he’s learned in chapel at pre-school, just ask him.
The Boy’s favorite song is the “I wear Captain Ears” song.
Another favorite is “Why you doing sesame?”
I wear Captain Ears = (Taylor Swift) She’s cheer captain, I’m on the bleachers. She wears high heels, I wear sneakers. Put it all together and “I wear Captain Ears”
Why you doing sesame = (Mariah, of course) Why you so obsessed with me.

In his true Benjamin Button fashion, he swears he’s lived in another house (we’ve lived in the same house since I was 5 months pregnant with him).
Lately he’s really been on this kick.
He tells people we’ve moved.
Or he walks around saying he doesn’t like this house, he liked our other house better.

We pass by office buildings and he always asks his Dad about working in that building.
He remembers going there.
Hubby is utterly confused and will tell him that he’s never worked there before.
He jokingly said, “That was your dad in your other life, not me.”
The Boy responds, “NO, it was you!” so matter of fact.

Right after that dispute, we’re on the freeway and The Boy asks his Dad “Who are those people on those signs. The ones that fix them”
Hubby still a bit confused, says “I don’t know Son. I’ve never done that. It wasn’t me.”
“No Daddy, those signs. Look right there.” As he points to the billboards along the freeway.
I could feel the frustration.
So I jumped in with the technical term “Those are billboard people, billboard hangers…” as my voice trails off cause I really have no idea what they’re actually called.
“Yeah Daddy, Mommy got it right”
Apparently we were in the middle of a game show.
I won.

Then he asks, “What’s that thing in the sky there Mom”
Now Hubby’s playing the sleeping game as I drive home.
“That’s a blimp Son.”
“A Limp? Do people ride in it?” he asks.
“Yes, they ride in the bottom part.”
“Is it soft?”
“No, I don’t think so”
“A Limp, a limp, a limp.” He keeps repeating.
“It’s a Bbbblimp”, “starts with a B, Blimp.” I reply, as I’m trying to emphasize the on the correct pronunciation.
To which he quickly corrects me “A Limp, that’s what I said. Why do you keep arguing with me?”

Pregnancy explained

As we're sitting around the kitchen table, The Boy asks me

Mom, remember when I was pregnant?

Me and The Teenager turn and look at each other with surprise
Are we gonna have another Benjamin Button story?

I think he can tell we're a bit confused, so he proceeds to explain...

Then I just popped out!

To which The Teenager replies, Mom was pregnant with you!

He rolls his eyes, looks at her like she's crazy and says with confidence...

No she was outside her belly.
I was inside.
I was pregnant.

You promise?

I think my little Benjamin Button is seeing into the future, or is it the past?!
Either way, it's a promise I wish I could keep...

The Boy: Mom I want to stay a little kid forever ever ever.

Me: Me too Son.

The Boy: I don’t want to grown up and be a daddy.

Me: Me either Son.

The Boy: You promise Mom.

Me: I promise.

The Boy: Are you just kidding? Or are you on purpose?

Me: I’m on purpose Son.

More Conversations with Benjamin Button

ahem, I mean The Boy...

As we’re driving home last night I point out to the city lights while we’re on the freeway interchange.

Look Boy, you can see all the city lights!
Isn’t that cool?

Yeah.
I saw that last time when we went to Open Michael night Mom.

Huh? You went to Open Mic night Son?

Yeah. He replies so nonchalant

Um, when?

The other night, with Sandra, Santi and his dad.
There were people singing there.
A guy playing his horn.
It was just us two kids- Me and Santi.
he says as he shrugs his shoulders.

*************************************************************************************

We’re sitting at the dinner table
And the boy’s coming up on my arm with his nose and sniffing me.
In our book, those are called Filipino kisses!

That’s the way our grandma’s have always kissed us and any babies for that matter.
They bring the babies face right up to their nose and sniff, sniff, sniff.
Naturally, that’s what I do to my babies!

So I ask, Are you giving me Filipino kisses?

Well wouldn’t you know it, that just brought back his backward memories (keep in mind he’s only 3) read here for more of his backward stories

Mom, remember when we went to the Phillipines?

No son, when was that?

When I was a teenager.

Yeah, we were there with Grandma. And there was another Grandpa and a lady.
That lady was talking crazy.
(I’m guessing he means they were speaking in tagalog, but that’s what his 3 year old mind can equate that too!)

Oh really? I ask.

Yeah, and then the grandpa kissed the lady. He says with his shoulders shrugged and a funny little eyeroll.

That was so crazy!
he adds.

Yeah, sure sounds like it, I reply.

Do you remember when we were in the plane?
I was sitting behind you and Daddy.
As he shows me with his little fingers diagram, two chairs in front. And there he was sitting in the back.

I don’t remember that son.

Well Daddy remembers!

Growing Pains...

The end of the year is steadily approaching which means birthday season is fast upon us...

The boy will go first, turning 4 in September.

This boy has quite an imagination and can tell a story, well, just about as good as all my other kids! They tend to stretch the truth and turn a small thing into a much grander, more eleborate event!

If you went upon his words, you would think this boy has a dirt bike, and 2 street bikes (motorcycles). (Yes, he wants to be a biker boy, just like daddy and Uncle Jeff)

His bikes are in the shop. They're being worked on because he had an accident.
One is red (because 1 of everything in his life is red) and one is green.
If you'd ever like to see these bikes, you get on the freeway, then go right, then left. I know this because he screamed that during a tantrum on our way home, apparently we were supposed to be going to the shop!

He's lived his life in reverse, sorta like the great Benjamin Button.

When he was a older, he was a bad boy. He went to jail.
(Hence his immense fear for policemen and their guns) However he does thoroughly enjoy locking himself up with those red fuzzy handcuffs play handcuffs he finds!

When he was a teenager, he had 5 dirt bikes. He did tricks on his ramp, on his BMX bike with pegs, and big jumps on his skateboard.

But now he's just a boy. A boy who's obsessed with words like butt and poop!
Take your pick, either one seems to fit into any sentence that comes out of his mouth.

The pre-teen will officially become a teenager in October.

I had the pleasure of taking her school shopping this weekend.
She used to be the girl that would find something no matter where we went, just for the sheer joy of getting something because mom said she could.

But now she's a teenager and everything MUST fit just right. So we walked up and down the mall corrider, going in and out of the stores, trying on this shirt, those pants, arguing about prices and drilling in that I'm not buying her another pair of skinny jeans...for 5 hours this circus goes on, only to find 1 stinkin' shirt!

Oh, how I longed for the days when she enjoyed wearing sweats and would just pick something! I guess after all these years of yelling at her for "just picking something because" has backfired!

The teenager will be 16 in December

She took her first vacation without her family, to Vegas of all places! I know, I'm crazy!
She was with her friends family, and yes, I was terrified at times.
But she's alive and she's home, so that's good, right?!

So Sunday morning we're up and getting ready to go to brunch and I go in her room to check out my outfit in the mirror (I mean 5 hrs of shopping and frustration, I deserved something new!)
She's acting a little funny and giving me that wierd look,
that "I did something wrong, does she notice?" smile
At first I figure it's because we're dressed similar, and I think she secretly likes it

Then I realize it

I see that shining reflection that's beaming off the side of her nose
I look, I yell, "What is that?!! Why did you do that?!!, When did you do that?!!!!!!!!"

Smirk, "I did it last night" "I cleaned everything really good Mom, I used the earing cleaner"

Still yelling "You're gonna get an infection!!!" "I told you next time you need to ask me first"

Next time?! you're asking yourself....oh yes, this is the second time. She recently took out a septum piercing. What is a septum you ask?
a dividing wall, membrane, or the like, in a plant or animal structure; dissepiment.

Yep, a dividing membrane in between the nose, like where you pierce a bull...that's where my sweet girl had her piercing. She recently took that out. But who was I kidding, she then became obsessed with how cute they look on the outside of ones nose.

Well my sweet child, you still had 2 father's you needed to go through. If one didn't have a fit, the other would. I'm sorry your Dad made you take it out!

In due time my love!

Now since we're on her birthday, we of course have to talk about mine because it's the same day. And we hate I mean, LOVE it, don't we?

I am definetly feeling the pain of getting older, now that I'm officially in my thirities, now I'm thirty plus a real number, gasp!!

I realize that ALL the clothes we saw in the mall, were clothes that I wore in jr. high. Funny how these things return. Then I worry that I'm shopping in the same stores.
I see women that are older than my mother at these stores trying things on and wondering to myself, is she really gonna wear that?!

Then I wonder if the kids my daughters age are saying that about me?!

I've been having this terrible pain that has set into my shoulder and moved down to my hand. It's been creeping up on me for a few months now, coming and going, but now I feel like it wants to make a permanent home and it terrifies me! Mom's can't be down, I can't be down. I hate it.
This getting old stuff aint no joke!

So last night, I'm just out of commission. I decide I'm gonna lay down and ice my shoulder.

Hubby's got the boy covered. They get ice cream from the ice cream man. Sweet of them to buy me one, but not in the mood to eat it. So they enjoy theirs.
Since mama's not cooking, they get Taco Bell. I said no to that, but hubby knows, I will not refuse food in front of my face. Smart man that he is brought me some...good thinkin!

But after the ice cream, Taco Bell, kimchi soup, and I'm sure a few other snacks hubby has enjoyed, I wonder to myself - why isn't he growing?

Follow along through the fun and agony as we try to figure out how to raise two completely opposite teenagers- Teen 1, the fiesty yet inquisitive one, Teen 2 quiet but wise-cracking and our ball full of energy known as The Boy. It aint always pretty, but we’ll sure try to make the best of it!
These are the stories of our lives…
